Does Your Home's Furnace Need To Be Professionally Repaired?

Ricardo Sanchez

As a homeowner, do you know what signs to look out for when it comes to furnace problems? Don't wait until the appliance completely breaks down and you're without heat in the middle of the winter. These warning signs should let you know that something needs your attention.

Air Quality Issues

You may have people in your home with allergies, and poor air quality can really affect their health. They may have issues where they are sneezing more often, have a stuffy nose, and overall are having a harder time breathing. This is all due to poor air quality from your furnace. While the furnace is supposed to help remove allergens in the air, it's possible that it is so dirty inside that the allergens are getting through the filter. You'll need to have the inside of the furnace cleaned to help the people in your home breathe with ease.

Old Age Issues

Sometimes a furnace just gets old and needs some attention. The appliance is not going to live forever, and can benefit from a general tune-up to make sure that all the parts are in good condition. You'll want to figure out the age of the furnace and the appliances average life expectancy. Any furnace that is getting up there in age should be regularly inspected by an HVAC professional to make premature repairs and replace parts before they fail completely.

Yellow Flame

Were you aware that the color of the flame coming out of the burner can be a reason to have the unit repaired? Be on the lookout for a flame that is yellow, which means that there's a problem with the burner not letting out the right amount of gas. If ignored, this faulty burner can even lead to carbon monoxide leaking into your home, which can potentially be fatal.

Noise

There are plenty of noises that a furnace is not supposed to make. One of them is a large bang when the furnace turns on. This is due to the gas that is released into the furnace not being able to ignite. The gas continues to build up to larger than normal levels, until finally you hear a large boom from the furnace. It is actually the sound of a small explosion caused by too much gas, and it means that the ignition system of the furnace needs to be repaired.
